Vampires Everywhere

Just exactly how many freakin' vampire book series are there??? The Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer is my one and only that I have read and even knew about. And tonight, as I'm waiting to go pick up Andrew from movie night at his girlfriend's house....

Okay, I have to pause on that thought. Andrew is at movie night at his girlfriend's. It was SO cute - it made me want to just hug and smooch him up as he was all nerves going over there. "What should I call her mom? Mrs. X?" I assured him that being a kiss-ass would get him everywhere! Always go in over polite and let the parents correct you down to something you also feel more comfortable with. Then, he had the valentine that we made for her... a box of Hershey's kisses with an "ipod" made from a box of conversation hearts. And the kicker? A long stemmed red rose (fake so it will never die -- just like his love for her... gag-choke-they are only FOURTEEN!!??) I told him that since she also watches The Bachelor that he should present her with the rose saying, "X, will you accept this rose?" And as Mrs. X and I were laughing about how we both Tivo the show, Andrew is grinning an embarrassed, nervous grin, making me want to hug him right then and there, but I refrained. Instead, I quickly excused myself, reconfirming what time I would be back to pick him up. I just hope they settled on a great chick-flick and not one of the "Happy Gilmore" or "Wayne's World" or similar type movies he thought were the right movies to bring over. I tried to tell him he wasn't going over to his buddy's house -- he was going to hang out with X, Mrs. X, and X's little sister. If her dad were home (he's a fireman with Corona - Andrew being a fire explorer has to have won him HUGE points right there!), the stupid comedy might have been a good call, but come on... you gotta cater to the women!

So, in the spirit of catering to women, my husband endured the Richard Gere movie Nights in Rodanthe with me tonight. (He tried really hard to keep his comments to himself, but a few slipped out... "So he's her dad, right?"
"How old is he, 75?" "When is that gerbil scene?" Ugh.) I had read the book a while back and thought the book was lame. Well, the movie was worse.

As soon as it was over, Craig couldn't get to the bedroom fast enough. (Maybe because last night I went to bed early to read and refused to turn the light off immediately when he came to bed. He accused me of being difficult and went to the couch. He knows I won't turn on the light to read if he's already in there. He wins tonight. Don't ya love marital power struggles? Ugh again.) I instead came online to kill a little time until I pick up loverboy at 10:30. Killing time catching up on some of my favorite blogs, and one of them mentions this Night Huntress series of books. Since she's raving about how great they are, I skip on over to BN.com to look them up, and within the book reviews people are recommending other vampire series... the Riley Jensen Guardian Series, the Morganville Vampire Series, Vampire Academy Series, Blue Bloods Series, Argeneu Vampire Series, Anita Blake Vampire Huntress Series, House of Night Series...... OMG!

I apparently need to get out more. And looking at the clock, for tonight retrieving a teenager will have to suffice.
