Running the Race(s)

I was in a bit of a mood this past week, so much so that I barely even read! I think it was due to the rain, being cooped up for 5 days straight with two toddlers. I am such a outdoorsy sunshine girl! I hear a lot of complaining about how hot it gets, especially living out here in the IE, but I LOVE the heat! I really should move to Phoenix or something, but then I'd really miss the beach. It's bad enough being an hour away. But all I can say about last week is that when I can't get outside with the kids and run around, I feel very unmotivated.

Despite my gloomy mood, I was able to push through on my workouts, and got in 5 decent runs (albeit on the treadmill) and lost another 2 pounds. I'm now officially down to the final 5 pounds, weigh less than I did when I got married, and have that horrible problem where all my pants are too loose. I really LOVE that problem!!

Along with keeping up my workouts, I've been doing really well setting up my plan to meet my goal of 6 races this year. I'm running one on Superbowl Sunday, another in March with my son and my niece, and then last Sunday, I was logged on to Facebook doing my usual check in, and along the right side of the page, I saw...

What's a mud run? Well, a crazy obstacle laced race in the mud!! I watched the video on the website, I felt a river of excitement surge through me. I immediately called Andrew into the room to watch, and he agreed. It looks Awesome! I posted a link to the race website on Facebook entreating my friends to join me, and 2 days later, I had a team together plus a few other people who want to sign up their own teams! Nothing like a little competition! My team of girls are the Dirty Blondes! Okay, so I'm not blonde anymore, but the way I see it after that first mud puddle no one's going to know what color my hair is anyway!

After hearing the team name, Andrew (wisely) decided he 's going to put his own team together, or he can run with one of my male high school cross country team mates. Yay for Facebook bringing the old team together! That's almost the most exciting part of it -- two of my old teammates are running with me! One of the guys is putting his own team together, and one of my favorite teammates from the girls cross country team is going to run on my team. And one of my best friends who swore she would never ever run, and the frosting is that my neice is going to join me for both the race in March AND this one.

It's inspiring, it's motivating, it's exciting. It's been a long time since I've been really excited about anything beyond making it to bedtime. I love having a goal - and I do love to run in races. I love that my son is running them with me, and now to have some old friends ready to join me for a day that looks so crazy and fun, well, I feel really amped.

So, I'll be running a 5K in February, March AND April. Next I'll need to find a 10K sometime in late May or June, and then do some serious training to be ready for the Disneyland half-marathon in September.

Maybe I will work my way back up to that marathon I always wanted to run. If my knees hold up, and I survive the half-marathon, I just might turn around and sign up for the Los Angeles Marathon. I've already signed up to run that one twice before, and for various reasons have been unable to get there... One race at a time though.... Looking forward to my run tonight!
