7-1/2 weeks ago the doctor told me what I didn't want to admit I knew. I've been swimming and weight lifting and walking and swimming, and swimming, and swimming, and most recently, starting P90X. I was told 2 weeks ago that I could run again, and it was time to stop procrastinating and being afraid. I tied my shoes and went out for my first run last night.
The first mile felt phenomenal, and very comfortable at a 9:30. The second mile, I realized I was running a pace 30sec faster than my first mile, so the third mile (and the mile when I realized all my endurance base was gone, and my anxiety about my knee kicked way up) I slowed myself way down to 11:00/mile. In the end, I ran 3 miles in 30 minutes, and walked another mile to get home. No shooting knee pain. I will admit I was very nervous, especially as I neared that 1.4 mile mark - that's the point where my knee would start screaming before. Then again after I got past 2 miles, I was also afraid of pushing too far, but so far so good.
Today I will do the shoulders/arms & abs workouts for P90X, tomorrow morning I will swim. Sunday I will shoot for a nice, easy 5 miler. I have a completely different plan this time. It's weird to only have 3 runs a week on my training plan, but knowing that I'm training smarter gives me a lot of confidence. I'm really looking forward to Sunday!
Weight Update: As of this morning, I am at 118.4. Wow!! Hello teens!!
