Pre Race Jitters

With my first half marathon of 2011, a mere 3 days away, I knew had to put in some miles this week if I want to be able to at least attempt it. Last night, I went for a quick and dirty 4 miler: 1/2 mile warm up, 3 miles at 9:30/mi pace, 1/2 mile warm down. I'd like to say that that was easy peasy, but honesty, I don't think I could've run any further if I tried.

Insert big sad face here. :(

Then, since I haven't been sleeping well this week at all, I decided to take an allergy pill last night to help me. With the winds and crazy weather, I figured this would be a good call. I don't know what woke me up - our rattling windows or the 'pause'. I've never experienced the heart palpitations like that before. I felt jittery, I was short of breath, and the pausing went on for a couple hours. I told Craig, "No more allergy pills for me!" He said, "It's because you went for a run."

Ugh. What am I going to do?

Today, I decided to do a strength workout. Quick and easy Jillian Michael's Shred It with Weights. 25 minutes - fun and done. Drank a protein shake for lunch.

Tomorrow, I'll try for another easy 3 miler, and then we'll see how Sunday goes. Doctor said I can so long as I feel okay. Well, I don't exactly feel "okay", but I'm trying. I'm not sure where the line is between nerves and speculation, and actual injury.

So I'm going to be the picture of perfection and positivity the rest of the week. Protein and leafy carbs for dinner. Good natural sleep tonight. Last run tomorrow, and whatever will be, will be... Hopefully, it's a little faster than the Disneyland Half.
