So Boston announced some necessary changes to its marathon qualifying times and registration process. Across the board, you have to finish 5 minutes faster for 2013 forward. I think this is a good change to get the event back to the best of the best. BUT they will also be using a rolling registration process which means that those who finish the fastest, get to register first. So even if I did quality with a 3:40 or better time (which is an 8:23/mi pace for 26.2 miles!?!), I doubt I would even be able to get in. Which makes me even more sure that I'm NOT sure I even want to run Boston anymore.
Now that I have two half marathons under my belt, I really have to think whether or not I can DOUBLE that effort. Half marathons really take it out of me. Now, I also haven't taken on a proper training program for a full marathon, but I don't know where I'll find the time to embark on that sort of training schedule.
Running a marathon may just be a once in a lifetime deal for me so what I do know is that I want that one 26.2 race to be something really big - like NYC or Honolulu... And then I'll adopt my brother's attitude, and spend the rest of my life feeling pretty stinkin' proud that I even finished one at all!
I guess one answer to it all will come next month when I see if I won the NYC Marathon lottery. I'm a little nervous that I will, but really hoping that I won't. I have a special time goal in mind for that one -- 2012 or later...
