Absenteeism

I feel so lost lately, having had nothing to blog about. Well, I suppose I could detail the monotony and feelings of futility that our imminent move has brought to my life. Sure, why not? Let's explore that idea, shall we?

I find a box, I pick a room, and I determine the contents for the box. I use my recently finely honed box packing skills to maximize the amount of stuff I can arrange to fit into the box. I seal the box, I label the box, and I stack it in the hallway to be moved to the garage. Repeat.

After completing the packing of said area (or whenever I run out of boxes), I open my Excel spreadsheet containing my "punch list" for this house. I stare at the 97 project items looming in front of me requiring completion. I continue to stare. I scroll up. I scroll down. Yay! I can cross off "choose paint color". 96 items to go. I stare at the list trying to determine what I will be able to cross off next. I scroll up. I scroll down. 20 minutes pass. I realize I'm paralyzed by the sheer magnitude of projects that need to be completed before we can move the renters in. And I haven't even hardly begun the process of typing up the "punch list" on the new home.

But am I excited? A resounding, YES! I'm dying to just be in the new house, with our stuff unpacked, all items in their new places, projects completed to the point where it's a Saturday and we can simply lounge on the couch because we have nothing to do.

Wait. We have three children? "Nothing to do" won't happen for another 17 years. :( Okay. Let me revise. I'm dying to just be in the new house, with our stuff unpacked, all items in their new places, projects completed to the point where it's a Saturday... and I can call up Gramma and drop off the kids, and we can simply lounge on the couch because we have nothing to do.

Yeah. That sounds good.

Speaking of projects, we got halfway done with a big one today. The futility part comes that even with an entire day spent slaving in the beautiful California sunshine, I can't open my spreadsheet and cross anything off because we're not done with it yet.

96 items remain.... And I don't see a single item on that list labeled "Blog"....
