Here are the contenders:
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson
Dedication by Emma Maclaughlin & Nicola Kraus
Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay
The Mermaid Chair by Sue Monk Kidd
Life of Pi by Yann Martel
All of these books have been waiting so patiently in my TBR pile. Here's hoping that I won't need to crack the cover on more than one tonight. (I'm TIRED!) Okay, I closed my eyes, and ran my finger up and down my list randomly.... and.....
The Mermaid Chair!
I don't even remember what it is about. Here we go. And.... Ugh. Didn't even get past the inside flap. (Told you I was tired.) Reaching for Dedication instead. Should be an easy read - it is by the girls who wrote The Nanny Diaries afterall.
Wait. Wait. Feeling guilty for not even reading page 1 of The Mermaid Chair. That was the deal. I was supposed to suffer out 20 pages and THEN decide. Opening to the first page, and here is the opening line:
"In the middle of my marriage, when I was above all Hugh's wife and Dee's mother, one of those unambiguous women with no desire to disturb the universe, I fell in love with a Benedictine monk."The first 75% of that sentence could be me... and then WHAT? A Monk? Tell me more....
Page 14 now... I'm hooked. Will review when I finish! :)
Will look forward to your review on this one, Gena. I LOVE 'The Secret life of Bees' and have wondered about this book.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I have a couple of recommendations for you. I know, I'm possibly adding to the TBR pile but these two books are incredibly wonderful ones that I've read this year and want you to know about. 1. 'The Mercy of Thin Air' by Ronlyn Domingue and 2. 'Eternal on the Water' by Joseph Monninger. I think you would enjoy both books.
