Breaking the Barrier

Simply a triumph post!

As a mom of three, losing the baby weight has become harder and harder after each baby. I never even lost all the weight after kid #2, so now that we are done making babies, it's more important to me to look the way I once did for both myself and my husband. After a day of whining and disobedience from kid #2, I couldn't get out of the house fast enough last night for a long run, which these days is 3.5 miles. It's been years since I ran consistently so I'm slowly building back up the mileage. It feels so good, and it's the one thing I can count on to really change my body.

Boy, did that ever feel good!! I sat stretching in the driveway afterward for about 10 minutes just savoring the workout and peacefulness of leaving the day's stressers back out on the loop I run.

My other motivation? S and I started a weight loss competition to see who could lose 10 pounds first. It's strictly on your honor, but it's also really good to have someone out there to appeal to my competitive side as well as hold me more accountable. So, what fun to step on the scale this morning and find that I've finally broken the 130 lb barrier!! Okay so just barely -- I'm at 129.8. BUT, I'm down 1.6 pounds after holding steady at a frustrating .2 weight loss for the past week. I think the running is what's making the difference. Oh, and maybe the fact that I only ate an apple for dinner last night. :)

Goal Weight: 120
Current Weight: 129.8
Lost to date: 12.2 lbs

  1. Congratulations, Gena! It really does feel good to break a barrier! It's also so helpful to have someone to motivate you - in whatever fashion. I'm training for a bicycling/running challenge that I'm doing with one of my best friends in October. I'm going to Maine for it so I'm super excited!
